HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County Circuit Court convened Tuesday, July 5, with the Hon. R. Michael McKenney presiding.
Durell H. Cottrell of Heathsville pleaded nolo contendere to carrying a concealed weapon, his second offense. The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor of carrying a concealed weapon. He was sentenced to six months in jail with six months suspended. He faces court costs of $252 and will complete a community corrections program. Cottrell also was charged with possession of Schedule I/II drugs; that charge was dismissed.
In the case of Tyler B. Mitchell of Reedville, charged with misdemeanor refusal to submit to a breathalyzer, a trial was continued to October 20.
In the case of Donald L. Michalak Jr. of Heathsville, charged with probation violation on a felony offense, a trial was continued to August 16.
Derrick L. Brown of Heathsville, found guilty of felony perjury of falsely swearing under oath, was sentenced to five years in prison with four years suspended. Further disposition will take place August 30.
