Merry Point man sentenced following his guilty plea to federal gun offense

RICHMOND—As part of a February plea deal in which Shadonta Lateef Beane of Merry Point pleaded guilty to a felony for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, U.S. District Judge David Novak on Wednesday, August 31, sentenced Beane to 118 months, nearly 10 years, with three years of supervised release.

This was just under the 120 months requested by U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber. An additional charge of felony gun possession was dismissed as part of the agreement.

According to court documents filed in U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, the charges stemmed from a pair of gun sales that occurred in October and November 2020. Aber stated that Beane “engaged in multiple conversations via Facebook Messenger, text messaging and cellular telephone calls” with a confidential source in order to sell….
