by Lisa Hinton-Valdrighi

Middlesex scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to overcome an 8-1 deficit and go on to edge Lancaster by a run, 10-9, in the varsity Lady Devils’ softball season opener.

Lancaster held a 2-1 lead after one then rallied for six runs in the top of the fifth to take a seven-run lead, before the host Lady Chargers erupted with an eight-run inning.

“For the first game, I thought we came out and competed and had a chance to win,” said LHS coach Doug French.
