Kilmarnock Town Council seeks relief assistance for utility accounts in arrears

KILMARNOCK—Kilmarnock residents with utility accounts that are in arrears may qualify for forgiveness up to $2,500 in the coming weeks, town manager Susan Cockrell said on October 17.

According to Cockrell, the town recently applied for and was awarded a grant through the Virginia Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) which provides funds to assist low-income households with water and wastewater bills.

Cockrell said residents may qualify for up to $2,500 in relief. She said this is a one-time activity. According to Cockrell, a third party non-profit organization, PROMISE, will assist the program and the town to determine accounts that qualify and ultimately distribute funds quickly.

She said the town will provide PROMISE with names of accounts in arrears. Once qualified accounts are determined….
