KILMARNOCK—Kilmarnock residents with utility accounts that are in arrears may qualify for forgiveness up to $2,500 in the coming weeks, town manager Susan Cockrell said on October 17.
According to Cockrell, the town recently applied for and was awarded a grant through the Virginia Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) which provides funds to assist low-income households with water and wastewater bills.
Cockrell said residents may qualify for up to $2,500 in relief. She said this is a one-time activity. According to Cockrell, a third party non-profit organization, PROMISE, will assist the program and the town to determine accounts that qualify and ultimately distribute funds quickly.
