Mae Umphlett adjourns her last session as mayor of Kilmarnock; councilman Gravatt also retiring

KILMARNOCK—After 11 years of service to the town, Mae Umphlett was recognized and celebrated for her steadfast leadership and involvement Monday, December 19, during her last council meeting as Kilmarnock’s mayor.

Council members and town staff expressed gratitude and admiration for Umphlett prior to her adjourning a council meeting for the final time.

“You have been an outstanding mayor. You brought stability to the town when it was greatly needed,” said council member Mike Bedell.

Council member Rebecca Nunn also shared sentiments of gratitude, saying prior to Umphlett taking office years ago, she had diligently studied the town charters and codes to be adequately prepared….
