Irvington unveils ideas for ‘front yard’ facelift

IRVINGTON—Initial steps are being considered to give Irvington’s “front yard” a major facelift.

On Thursday, January 12, playground and Commons area committee chairman Gabe del Rio said the committee was formed last year and charged by town council with planning capital improvement projects and uses for the Irvington Commons. Results of a recent survey among residents and business owners indicated significant interest in additions to the playground and Commons.

del Rio described the initial goals and visions determined by the committee, focusing particularly on the playground area. He said priorities for playground upgrades include a natural aesthetic, new and various types of equipment to be inclusive of all ages, and for the gear to be sustainable and safe. Climbing structures, a ninja course, spinners, shaded benches and swings were all desired elements.
