New year, new administration for Kilmarnock

KILMARNOCK—January 23 marked the first regular meeting of the new year for the Kilmarnock mayor and council, but appeared to be business as usual, smoothly moving through a number of updates concerning the town.

During a report on streets, sidewalks and playgrounds, Mike Bedell said the town received an update on design and costs for a new restroom addition to the Town Hall by Chesapeake Construction Services, He added that new welcome signs are being installed on Harris Road, Irvington Road, Route 3 and Route 200.

Bedell also reported that a Lancaster County building official had ordered the demolition of the remaining fire-damaged buildings on Irvington Road. He said work to remove the buildings will begin January 30.

During an economic development committee update, Kylie Abbott made a motion to contribute $2,000 to the Dennis Burchill scholarship….
