HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland County, assisted by the Northern Neck Planning District Commission, has applied to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (VDHCD) for a third grant to fund its just-completed revitalization plan for Callao.
At several recent public meetings, Callao residents and business owners, as well as residents in the surrounding area and across the county, indicated their strong support for reinvigorating the village’s commercial district by expanding and creating new businesses, providing opportunities to share the history and culture of Callao and recognizing Callao as the “Hometown of the Northern Neck!”
The proposed total cost of the project is $1.19 million, with $690,000 requested from VDHCD, reported Northumberland County Economic Development Commission executive director Theresa Lambert.
