The top two teams in Region A, the Eastern Shore’s Northampton of the Eastern Shore District and Westmoreland of the Northern Neck District, headed the list of selections to the Class 1 All-State soccer team, released last week by the Virginia High School League.
Northampton, which beat Westmoreland in both the regional and state championships, had its coach, Chase Baxa, named as the Class 1 boys coach of the year.
Galax senior midfielder, David Espinoza, is the Class 1 player of the year. Espinoza led the Maroons to a 20-1-1 record and the state semifinals, scoring 22 goals and contributing 18 assists.
