HEATHSVILLE—Louis P. Spencer of Warsaw appeared in front of Judge R. Michael McKenney on Tuesday, October 3, for the first stage of a trial regarding the May 12 murder of Everette Ronals Samuels, 74.
According to a press release from Virginia State Police, Samuels was found dead in his Lara Ridge Road home around 3 a.m. on May 13 by state police.
Spencer was charged with murder in the second degree on August 29. Spencer additionally faces a felony charge of entering a dwelling while armed with intent to commit murder, rape, robbery or arson.
His attorney, James Monroe, requested a mental examination for Spencer to test for competency to stand trial as well as his sanity at the time of the alleged crime.
McKenney granted a mental health review. Spencer remains behind bars and will appear in court again on December 12 for results of the mental examinations.
