Strong communities don’t just happen—they are developed with intention and design!
Chesapeake Academy middle school students attend Inward Bound, an annual retreat to get to know themselves and their peers better and to bond as advisory groups, grade levels and as a larger middle school group. The Inward Bound retreat is all about creating a nurturing, connected learning environment. Students participate fully in group problem-solving activities, games, contests and reflections with a variety of partners, said head of school Trip Cogburn.
During Inward Bound 2023, activities centered on the annual character theme, “together,” to build character and relationships and connect the idea of collaborating “together” to advisory topics of transition, friendship, self-discovery and leadership.
Group team building and challenges at Inward Bound are led by eighth grade students in each advisory family and include games and tasks that encourage critical thinking, teamwork and creativity….
