REEDVILLE—C. Ray Prible, M.D., 72, of Reedville passed away December 3, 2023.
Born in Peru, Indiana, on June 26, 1951, to Paul and Mary Elizabeth Prible, Ray spent much of his youth at the family lake house on Lake Tippecanoe. Ray studied undergrad at Butler University and received his medical degree from Indiana University.
While practicing emergency medicine in Indianapolis, Ray met and married the love of his life, Linda Finney Prible. At the completion of his residency, the Pribles started what would become a family of six. To accommodate their growing family, Ray transitioned to industrial medicine, where he worked for Indiana Bell, New England Telephone and Norfolk Southern Railroad.
After 22 years of dedicated service as Norfolk Southern’s director for medical services, he retired to Reedville with his wife of 47 years, Linda.
In retirement, “Bubba” could be found eating out at local restaurants, traveling the world with friends and family, sitting on the porch watching the Reedville sunsets, boating the Great Wicomico River and Chesapeake Bay with close friends, and playing competitive pool at KC’s Crabs and Cues. During COVID, he always looked forward to weekly virtual happy hour with his kids, referred to as “Drinks with Dad.” This was considered a precious time to him, used for catching up on current events and activities, storytelling paired with love and laughter, and an opportunity to say goodnight to the grandkids.
Ray was a very talented pianist and he loved sharing his gifts at home, church and other special events. Over the course of his life, his professional career took him from Indiana to New England and finally to Virginia Beach. Ray is remembered most often for his passion for playing worship music in area churches. During quiet evenings at home, he enjoyed playing as a personal act of worship.
Ray is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth Hooper; and father, Paul Herbert Prible.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; his children, William (Casie), Amy (Stephan), Jonathan (Jenn) and Joshua (Heather); grandchildren, Reagan, Anna, Mason, Liam, Jordan and Jacob; and cousin, Bruce (Kathy) and family.
A celebration of life will be held during warmer weather, details TBD, but Hawaiian shirts will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum.
