Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club holds singles tennis championships

Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club (ICYCC) held its Club Singles Championships March 22-24 at the club’s Indoor Racquet Center.

The competition involved three division tournaments. Brenda Christoforatos won the women’s A championship, Caroline Ciccone won the women’s B championship and Jack Woodfin won the men’s division championship.

The action started with the women’s A division match between Gail Kenna and Christoforatos.

Kenna brought years of experience to the table, with a low flat forehand and backhand, along with slice and finesse, said ICYCC director of racquet sports George Christoforatos. B. Christoforatos brought heavy and high-top spin, with a mix of slices and a pretty big serve. They played the best two out of three full sets for the title.

B. Christoforatos came out hot and won the first set 6-1, pushing Kenna off the baseline. Kenna countered in the second set and moved up and took the ball on the rise and changed the match completely. The two fought to a 6-4 set, with the winner Christoforatos. She held serve at 5-4 with 4 outstanding first serves to clinch….
