HEATHSVILLE—The Rappahannock Amateur Radio Association (RARA) is making plans to participate in the upcoming Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) Field Day.
More than 35,000 radio operators and hundreds of radio stations throughout North America gather to take part in ARRL Field Day, said RARA Field Day chairman Mike Rancourt. Since 1933, the 24-hour event has amateur radio operators temporarily setting up radio stations in public locations, emergency operations centers (EOC’s), or at home, to test their emergency preparedness, communication skills, interact with the public, and enjoy a contest between stations. The field day is held the fourth weekend in June.
The RARA, call sign W4NNK, plans to set up at the Mid-County Volunteer Rescue Squad, 7990 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville. Mid-County Rescue is an emergency operations center (EOC), where the club members will set up….
