Irvington will celebrate Independence Day with a patriotic Hometown Parade on Thursday, July 4, sponsored by the Town of Irvington.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. on King Carter Drive with decorated bicycles and golf carts, classic cars, a color guard from the Northumberland High School Junior ROTC, the Kilmarnock and District Pipe Band and the Acca Masonic Temple Mini Patrol from Richmond. A classic car show will be held at noon on the Irvington Town Commons, 98 King Carter Drive.
The parade will recognize the contributions to the community of four exceptional people, Michelle Lybarger, Irvington Village Improvement Association Volunteer of the Year; David and Kate Dew, Chesapeake Academy All-Stars; and Ann Meekins, Irvington Virginia Business Association (IVBA) Business of the Year, said councilwoman and special events committee chairman Judy Penniman.
King Carter Drive at Tavern Road will be closed to traffic from 10:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on July 4, said Penniman.
