
Some 30 participants of Macedonia Community Development Corporation Inc. (MACorp) Northern Neck Passport Experience visited the Kilmarnock Museum on Thursday, July 11.
The Girls Empowerment and Camp S.W.A.G. students received a personalized tour event, according to museum president Carroll Lee Ashburn.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office illustrated how radar works, and the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department explained the operation of their brush truck. Students mined for gems and artifacts, courtesy of the Rocks to Gems Company of Lively, said Ashburn. The Little Wonder Horse Farm from Middlesex provided buggy rides, pulled by miniature horses.
Inside the museum, visitors learned about the town’s multiple fires, the fishing industry, Admiral Chase flying under the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge, “Airplane Payne” of Northumberland County and the Lancaster High School marching Red Devils band director who was arrested for marching too slow during the 1997 WarsawFest parade, he said.
