On July 27, over 20 children, parents, grandparents and Irvington Mayor Julie Harris enjoyed the Steamboat Olympics at the Irvington Commons. Sponsored by the Steamboat Era Museum, the event featured many games that were popular during that era. There were burlap bag races, three-legged races, balloon toss, running race and tug-of-war. Everyone received a souvenir medal and enjoyed water and ice pops. “I would like to extend congratulations for a wonderful morning of Olympics,” wrote Mayor Harris to museum manager Candee Pevahouse. “The weather was great! The games were great! Everyone had a wonderful time! What a great way to show today’s children some of the fun activities enjoyed by children of long ago.”
