OPHELIA—Bessie Lewis Georgianna, 94, of Ophelia, widow of William G. Lewis and Joseph A. Georgianna, passed away on July 30, 2024. She was a graduate of White Stone High School and worked in several businesses in Kilmarnock, the last one being the Lancashire Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, where she worked for 30 years.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence A. Dawson and Violet M. Derr; her brothers, Benjamin L. Dawson, Clarence H. Dawson, Henry G. Dawson and Daniel Derr; and a step-grandson, Brandon Georgianna. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandparents, Benjamin F. and Bessie P. George, with whom she spent her childhood and teen years.
Bessie is survived by her children, William Larry Lewis (Bonnie) and Esther Diane Mahan; step-children, Joseph A. Georgianna Jr., Diane Mauer (Richard) and Robert Georgianna; sisters, Anna Ticer and Linda Alvis; five step-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 3, at Afton Methodist Church. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Afton Methodist Church.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
