Irvington council receives input on proposal to expand Refuel by six cottages

IRVINGTON—Town council members and residents on Thursday, August 8, expressed concerns related to a conditional use permit (CUP) application submitted by Albert Pollard Jr. to build an additional six cottages at Refuel.

Pollard’s application states he would build six additional one-bedroom cottages of the same footprint and style on the 1.9 acre parcel. If approved, the available parking at Refuel would exceed the requirement in the town’s parking ordinance. There is land to add an additional 23 parking spaces if needed, he said.

No more than three units could start construction prior to 2026, said Pollard.

In a statement submitted in writing prior to the meeting, Pollard said that since developing Refuel, the Seafood Lane neighborhood has been improved from the previous abandoned industrial site. Additional cottages would do nothing to impair property values, he wrote.

During the public hearing, council member Judy Penniman expressed her concerns with a number of the cottages currently being used as extended stays….
