IRVINGTON—Vivian Graham passed away peacefully on Friday, August 16, 2024.
She was born in Newport News (then Warwick County) on August 7, 1928, to the late William Delbert Fox and Eva Lou Fox (nee Hunt). She married Robert Fairbairn in 1951, and in 1967 she married Gordon Graham.
She lived most of her life in Virginia: Newport News, the Northern Neck and Arlington. She also lived for 10 years in Tokyo, Japan, and for shorter periods in Houston, Tucson, Sacramento, South Carolina and Turkey. In 1982, Vivian and Gordon built a home on Antipoison Creek near White Stone, and in 2001 they moved to Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury. Gordon passed away in 2008, and Vivian remained in their home at RWC until her death.
Vivian and Gordon loved living in Lancaster County, where they enthusiastically played golf, gardened, went boating on the Chesapeake Bay, raised a succession of family dogs, enjoyed an active social life with many dear friends, and loved visits from their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vivian also enjoyed cooking, reading, visiting the Outer Banks, and visiting her mother, sisters, brother, and many nieces and nephews, many of whom still lived on the Peninsula.
Vivian was a bright, beautifully spirited, cherished daughter, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Gordon; her sisters, Colleen and Frances; and her brother, Bill.
Vivian is survived by sons, Bob and Don; stepson, Alex; stepdaughters, Eloise and Helen; five children-in-law, 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Foundation at Home – RW-C Foundation.
