Lancaster wins first district volleyball match

After dropping the first set, Lancaster came back to win three straight and upend Westmoreland, 3-1, in a Northern Neck District varsity volleyball match September 26.

The Lady Devils dropped their district opener, 3-1, to Northumberland on September 24 to get off to a 1-1 start in league play. Middlesex swept LHS, 3-0, on September 23 to put the Devils at 5-5 overall.

Addie George and Rory Lally did most of the defensive work for the Devils against Westmoreland. George had 29 digs and Lally had 24. In a close third, Ayla Saunders had 21, Alexis VerMeer had 16 and Lily Hathaway, 15. Hathaway also served over six aces and George, five, to account for 11 LHS points. The Devils tallied 17 aces as a team with VerMeer serving four and Lally and Tahlia Sutton one each.

VerMeer was a force at the net with 35 kills….
