Boo Bash

Trunk or Treat Boo Bash will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 24, at the pavilion on the Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern campus, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville.

This county-sponsored event will include free Halloween candy, handed out from the trunks of vehicles, plus games, music, prizes, hot dogs and ghoulish surprises. Children should wear their Halloween costumes.

Corn maze

The Northern Neck Farm Museum/Luther Welch Agricultural Center, 12705 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will host a corn maze through October. The maze is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and 1-4 p.m. Sundays.

The fee is $5 per person with a $20 maximum per family; ages 3 and younger are free. Closed-toe shoes are required.

“Now and Then”

“Now and Then” will open November 1 with a gala offering food and drink at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at The Westmoreland Players Theatre, 16217 Richmond Road, Callao. Tickets to the gala and performance are $40 adults, or $27 for students.

The production will continue with performances at 7:30 p.m. November 2, 8, 9 and 15; as well as 3 p.m. November 3, 10, 16 and 17. Tickets for the remaining shows are $30 for adults and $17 for students. For tickets, visit westmorelandplayers.org or call 529-9345.

Oyster roast

Heathsville Masonic Lodge #109 A.F. & A.M. will hold an oyster roast from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, October 26, at Cowart Seafood, 755 Lake Landing Drive, Lottsburg. The menu will include roasted oysters, hamburgers, hot dogs, bean soup and beverages.

Tickets are $40 per person. For tickets call Todd Jones, 724-0589, or Slater Rice III, 450-8100. Tickets also will be available at Lilian Lumber Company and the door.

Senior gathering

Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington, hosts a senior gathering from noon-1:30 p.m. on second Tuesdays. Share lunch, bingo and fellowship.

Resource fair

The Northumberland County Department of Social Services will hold its annual Resources Family Fun Fair “Spooky Edition” from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, October 26, at the Northumberland Family YMCA, 6348 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

This free event will offer a boxed lunch, a costume contest, video games, hay rides, pony rides, bounce houses and door prizes. Celebrate Halloween and learn about community resources.

Barbecue

Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, 73 Monument Place, Heathsville, will hold a Take-out Barbecue Dinner from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, October 27. Tavern member Sid Mace, a certified North Carolina BBQ Master, will make pulled pork, barbecue sauce and “Jack Daniels” baked beans. The meal also comes with Tavern-made potato salad and coleslaw, a bun and brownies.

The fee is $25. Tickets must be purchased in advance at www.RHHTFoundationinc.org, or The Tavern from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.

Help Ron

A benefit concert to help Ron Jeffries battle ALS will be held from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, October 27, at Willaby’s, 327 Old Ferry Road, White Stone. Tom Euler and Mercy Creek will be featured. Honeywind Bluegrass Band withdrew from the concert due to a family loss

101.7 Bay FM will be there assisting with donations. There is no cover charge and folks can contribute at the event or anytime at www.gofundme.com/f/support-ron-jeffries-in-his-als-battle. Willaby’s will donate a portion of food and beverage proceeds.

Brunswick stew

The Callao Hometown Association will hold a Brunswick stew drive-thru fundraiser from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. November 2 at the Callao Volunteer Fire Department, 314 Northumberland Highway, Callao.

Pre-order stew for $12 per quart at Callao Supply Company, Callao Car Center or gocallaova.org. Proceeds will support the Hometown Community Park in Callao.

English Tea

Tickets are available for the Friends of the Library English Tea from 3-5 p.m. November 3 at Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

The menu will include tea service with milk or lemon, homemade scones with cream, egg sandwiches, cucumber sandwiches and sweets. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased at the library.

Marine Corps Birthday Ball

Marine Corps League Detachment 1062 will commemorate the 249th birthday of the Marine Corps with a Marine Corps Birthday Ball at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club November 8. The guest speaker will be retired U.S. Marine Corps Major General Mike E. Ennis.
