Marine Corps ball

Marine Corps League Detachment 1062 will commemorate the 249th birthday of the Marine Corps with a Marine Corps Birthday Ball at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club Friday, November 8. The guest speaker will be retired U.S. Marine Corps Major General Mike E. Ennis.

Murder mystery

The Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock, will present Midway to Murder: An Homage to a 1950s Carnival Midway at 6 p.m. Friday, November 8. 1950s costumes are encouraged.

Photo show

Reflections-A Photography Show to benefit the Kilmarnock Museum will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, November 8, at Hills Quarter Community Center, 723 Old Saint Johns Road, Irvington.

Photos will be on display that explore the beauty of the area and historic past. Light hors d’oeuvres, wine and beverages will be served. Music will be provided by Dave Hershiser. Photos will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public.

Chamber concert

The Northern Neck Orchestra’s chamber music concert series will continue on Sunday, November 10, at Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street in Kilmarnock. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased at www.northernneckorchestra.org or the door.

The concert of music for violin and piano will begin at 2 p.m. and will highlight music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Igor Stravinsky, Bela Bartok and Edward Elgar.

Freedom

The Heritage Committee of Middlesex County Inc. will sponsor a talk by Dr. Randolph H. Latimore, Sr. at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 10, at Union Shiloh Baptist Church, 3 Union Shiloh Lane, Jamaica. Dr. Latimore’s topic will be “Freedom in the Air.”

The program will include poetry and music that reflect African American history and culture, as well as a memorial tribute to the Honorable Patricia Polson Satterfield, the founding president of The Heritage Committee. Following the talk, refreshments will be served in Union Shiloh’s Fellowship Hall.

Heritage event

George Washington Birthplace National Monument, 1732 Popes Creek Road, Colonial Beach, on Sunday, November 10, will host cultural demonstrations by Tribal representatives and community partners to highlight Native American Heritage Month.

Learn about and celebrate the rich traditions, languages and innovations of Indigenous people in the Northern Neck from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Memorial Area.

Bay concert

Concerts by the Bay will present Kate Voss and the Hot Sauce at 3 p.m. November 17, at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium, Mathews High School, 9889 Buckley Hall Road, Mathews. Admission is by subscription, or $30 at the door; students free.

Piano quartet

The Rappahannock Concert Association will present The Garth Newel Piano Quartet at 7:30 p.m. November 23 at the Northumberland County School Performing Arts Theater, 201 Academic Lane, Heathsville.

Oysters & Oldies

The St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church 17th annual Oysters & Oldies Christmas oyster roast will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. December 7 at Roanoke Farm, 6108 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville.

Festival of Trees

The 27th annual Festival of Trees will be held at the Northern Neck Family YMCA at 6 p.m. December 7. Tickets are $75 each and can be purchased at https://www.ymcavp.org/fot or 435-0223.

Christmas show

The Kilmarnock Museum recently announced a bus trip to the Old Dominion Barn Dance Christmas Show on December 14 to see Wilson Fairchild and Hunter Owens. A chartered coach will depart from Chesapeake Commons in Kilmarnock at 11:30 a.m. and return by 10 p.m. A nonrefundable $135 fee includes roundtrip fare, seats to the show and snacks on the bus.

The bus will stop for dinner on the return trip at Nick’s Spaghetti and Steak House in Shacklefords. Dinner is not included in the fee. To reserve a seat, call Mary Brent, 238-8738, or Ashburn, 296-0930. Cash or checks payable to Kilmarnock Museum is expected at time of booking.

Chicken dinners

Chicken dinners will be available from 5-6:30 p.m. on first Mondays at American Legion Post #117, 39 School Street, Reedville.

Meals include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, choice of vegetables, salad, roll, dessert and drink. Dinners are $12 for adults and $6 for children ages 12 and younger, at the door.

Senior gathering

Irvington United Methodist Church, 26 King Carter Drive, Irvington, hosts a senior gathering from noon-1:30 p.m. on second Tuesdays. Share lunch, bingo and fellowship.

Rotary

The Rotary Club of the Northern Neck meets for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. on second and fourth Wednesdays at River Counties Community Foundation, 834 Rappahannock Drive, White Stone.
