KILMARNOCK—Patty Tournai, 64, of Kilmarnock passed away in her home on February 17, 2025.
Patty was born March 7, 1960, in Indiana where she grew up.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Kathleen “Kay” Tournai.
Patty is survived by her sisters, Miriam Tournai of Tinley Park, Ill.; Sharon Newell (Terry) of Crown Point, Ind.; Kathleen Cheney (Bob) of Kilmarnock; nephew, Johnny Newell of Chicago, Ill.; aunt, Gussie Lyon; uncle, Bob Solomon; and many cousins and close friends. Her college “Bees” also held a special place in her heart.
Patty was a graduate of a Catholic grade school, a Catholic high school and a Catholic college. Patty earned a bachelor’s in accounting with a minor in philosophy, honors program, summa cum laude from St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa, class of 1982, which lead her to a lifelong successful career in management of manufacturing companies in the Chicagoland area.
Patty was a connoisseur of fine wine who liked to sing, golf, read, garden, bike, walk, travel, knit and crochet. As one of her friends wrote upon her death, “we do know how Patty lived…she gave generously, drank heartily, listened intently, forgave easily, laughed enthusiastically, traveled extensively and loved fiercely.”
Patty brought so much warmth and light that the world feels a little bit dimmer without her. However, we now have a very special angel in heaven watching over us.
The family will receive friends and family at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, followed by a Catholic funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales, Kilmarnock. The mass will be co-celebrated by Patty’s cousin Fr. David Bittner. A luncheon will follow at 606, The Quays, White Stone, with music by The Haus Band.
An additional Celebration of Life will be held April 5 at Journeyman, Valparaiso, Ind.
