Lancaster school board increases lunch fees; unpaid meal policy under review

by Madison White Franks

KILMARNOCK—The Lancaster school board on July 13 increased the cost of student lunches by a dime.

Effective with the new school year, primary school lunches will be $2.60 and middle and high school lunches will be $2.65.

District 4 member Joan Gravatt moved to accept the increase and District 3 member Audrey Thomasson seconded it. With additional support from District 1 member Robert Smart and District 5 member Bob Westbrook, the motion passed, 4-0. District 2 member Kenya Moody was absent.

In a related matter, the board discussed the unpaid meal charge policy, which establishes a process and procedure to handle situations when children eligible for reduced-price or full-price meal benefits have insufficient funds to pay for school meals. It also addresses the collection of unpaid meal charges and delinquent account debt.
