LANCASTER—On Saturday, May 17, at approximately 5:38 p.m. Lancaster County deputies responded to the 400 block of Russell Lane in Lancaster County for the report of a self-inflicted accidental shooting.
Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 5:46 p.m. and immediately rendered first aid to the victim, identified as Cason Chilton, 14, reported Major James E. Smith, chief deputy.
Lancaster County Emergency Services arrived on scene and took over treating Chilton, who was airlifted by LifeEvac to VCU Children’s Hospital in Richmond. LifeEvac had to divert back to Bon Secours Rappahannock General Hospital after Chilton succumbed to his injuries.
“This is a tragic loss for our community and our thoughts and prayers are with the Chilton family,” said Major Smith.
