Northumberland supervisors reject proposed $22.6 million school budget

HEATHSVILLE—With the end of the fiscal year approaching, on Wednesday, May 21, the long-awaited Northumberland school budget was finally presented to supervisors.

However, the supervisors told superintendent Dr. Karen Leslie to make significant cuts. “I don’t think this is doable,” supervisor James Brann said.

At last week’s budget work session, county administrator Luttrell Tadlock presented a $47.2 million draft county budget with local funding of the schools at $14,855,244, unchanged from the current fiscal year. However, a revised school budget presented by Leslie asked for considerably more in county funds, now topping out at $16,237,355, an increase of $1,352,111 or 9%. The overall proposed school budget of $22,655,990 is a $1,126,926 or 5.23% increase over….
