Four members of the Stripers Masters Swim Team, Andy Brown, Charlotte Hollings, Jim Miller and John O’Shaughnessy, completed the 4.4 mile Great Chesapeake Bay Swim on June 8.
The wind out of the east meant the swimmers battled into a headwind the whole way across, reported Hollings.
Veteran bay swimmer Miller said this 24th crossing was one of the most difficult he could remember.
Some 481 swimmers made it all the way across while 49 did not finish. Brown, Hollings and O’Shaughnessy were participating for the first time after last year’s event was canceled at the last minute.
Hollings said she’d be happy to go back and do it again, maybe when Milller goes for his 25th. Brown and O’Shaughnessy are looking for a new adventure now that they’ve conquered the bay.
