FODR prepares Moser tract for controlled burn

WARNER—Friends of Dragon Run (FODR) members recently volunteered to trim around longleaf pine (LLP) trees in preparation for a controlled burn.

Area forester Lisa Deaton and LLP/southern pine beetle specialist Jim Schroering, both of the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF), recommended the work to protect the trees on the FODR Moser property, reported FODR communications director Jack Kauffman.

The Moser property was purchased in April 2025 from Catharine Moser. She and her late husband, Greg, purchased the 32-acre property along the Dragon Run in Middlesex County in 1988, said Kauffman.

In 1999, they began planting LLP trees….
