Northumberland planning commission discusses sites for proposed animal shelter

HEATHSVILLE—Now that Northumberland supervisors have given the go-ahead for a potential new animal shelter, it is up to the planning commission to recommend its location. On December 18, the commission discussed what information will be needed to make that decision as well as agreeing to a February 19 meeting with shelter staff to discuss needs.

Previously, Peter Williams of the Friends of the Northumberland County Animal Shelter (FNCAS) told supervisors the organization would “fund and build a new county animal shelter on county owned property and then donate the completed animal shelter to Northumberland County ownership.”

Planning commission vice chairman John Kost said “The charge for us is, number one, to figure out which piece of property is best suited….
