WHITE STONE—The White Stone Town Council has decided to delay discussions about the economic and traffic impacts of the new bridge construction project, slated to begin in 2028.
Council had planned to hold an informational session this month regarding construction of the Robert O. Norris Jr. Memorial Bridge replacement, but decided at its Thursday, January 8, meeting to push discussions to a later date on the advice of state officials.
Town clerk Melinda Sliakis George told council she had reached out to the Virginia Department of Transportation and was told it would be holding workshops and discussions with residents about the construction process and impact beginning sometime in 2027.
VDOT believes a meeting now is “premature,” said George, “and I feel like VDOT needs to be a part of this meeting.”
