SENORA—A fire on a narrow strip of waterfront land stretching between the Rappahannock River and Beach Creek in upper Lancaster County created a logistical challenge for first responders on Friday, January 16.
One home burned to the ground and another was damaged beyond repair on Beach Creek Spit during the morning fire, according to Upper Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department chief Danny Akers. Located on a narrow peninsula, the houses are not accessible by road and fire trucks were forced to park nearly a half a mile away.
“We even threw a hose overboard and were drafting from the creek but the tide started going out,” said Akers.
The call came in just after 11 a.m. for a structure fire on Cottage Cove Way in Senora, he said. Winds helped to fuel the blaze and….
