CLARAVILLE—The Northumberland County School Board on Monday, January 12, recognized elementary, middle and high school teachers of the year.
Recognized by respective school principals, teachers from all three education levels were recognized for their dedication to students and the school division.
Elementary school principal Martha Williams announced Brantley Swift as a teacher of the year. According to Williams, Swift is a passionate and dedicated kindergarten teacher and an important fixture within the entire division. Swift coaches multiple female sports teams across the division and is instrumental in teacher-led programs.
“Brantley just slides into leadership easily,” Williams said.
Middle school principal Shelli Lipton expressed her gratitude to teacher of the year Mary Ambrose. According to Lipton, Ambrose, an eighth grade teacher, diligently works with her students using a number of teaching exercises and fosters a steady and engaging learning environment. Lipton said Ambrose has been teaching at Northumberland for 29 years.
“Thank you, Mary Ambrose, for your dedication to your students and staff every day,” said Lipton.
High school principal Joram Regis recognized math teacher Rob Etzold as a teacher of the year.
“Mr. Etzold is always present for his students. He believes a good education is rooted in community,” said Regis.
Etzold also is the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports leader.
