General Assembly moving quickly on legislation

RICHMOND—The Virginia General Assembly has been busy since it convened on January 14. Now that the January 23 deadline for filing bills and resolutions has passed, the next milestone is February 18, Crossover Day, the last day for each chamber to consider their own bills before moving on to the other chamber.

Lawmakers will have until March 14 to complete their work before adjourning.

Election bills

Senate Bill 57, patroned by Schuyler VanValkenburg, would put Virginia back in the Electronic Registration Information Center consortium, a 26-state partnership designed to share voter registration and department of motor vehicle data to aid in accuracy of voter registration data. Virginia withdrew from the group in 2023. The bill passed in the privileges and elections committee, 8-7….
