HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland County Circuit Court convened Tuesday, February 17, with the Hon. John S. Martin presiding.
James T. Raynor of Heathsville was found guilty of embezzlement of over $200. He was sentenced to five years with five years suspended. He owes $453 in costs and $11,227.33 in restitution. He was placed on supervised probation for 12 months. A probation violation on a felony offense charge was nolle prossed.
In the case of Maurice C. Veney of Spotsylvania, charged with possession/transportation of a weapon as a violent felon, possession of a weapon/ammunition as a felon (not a gun), and receiving a stolen firearm/aiding in concealment of a firearm, a status hearing was set for April 28. Veney also faces a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed firearm.
In the case of Crystal F. Kappel of Heathsville, charged with two counts of construction fraud by advanced pay of over $1000, a status hearing was set for March 17. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of committing unlawful acts per business regulations.
In the case of Michael S. Kappel of Heathsville, charged with two counts of construction fraud by advance pay of over $1000, obtaining over $1000 by false pretenses, and two counts of unlawful acts per business regulation (third or more offense in 36 months), a status hearing was set for March 17. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of committing unlawful acts per business regulations.
