Northumberland planning commission recommends conditional use permit to house restaurant workers

HEATHSVILLE—The Northumberland planning commission on Thursday, April 16, recommended approval of a conditional use permit request from Graydon Hester to allow a multi-unit dwelling on general residential (R1) property at 731 Old Glebe Point Road in Burgess. The request now moves to the board of supervisors for an additional public hearing and vote.

The 7-1 decision followed a pubic hearing where some objections were expressed.

Danny Hester, owner of Horn Harbor Restaurant and speaking on behalf of the project, said he and his son, Graydon, “purchased a piece of property to build a home to provide housing for employees. That was the intent.” Hester added an extra kitchen and electric meter on the three bedroom home in order to make it usable for two separate employees….
