Looking back about 400 years
Mark Gearhart was the featured speaker at the spring meeting of the Northumberland County Historical Society on Sunday, April 6. Gearhart explained how he developed a 17th-century map of Northumberland County, based on original land patents from 1636 to about 1680. He addressed some of the challenges and discoveries of his research. The map, “A Brief and True Report of Northumberland County Virginia,” is on display at the Ball Memorial Library and Museum, 86 Back Street, Heathsville. Unframed copies are available there for $100 each. Shipping also is available.
