HEATHSVILLE—Albert Leander Brown Jr. passed away at Rappahannock General Hospital on Saturday, June 24, 2023.
He is survived by his daughter, Denise A. Brown; a brother, William R. Brown; and granddaughter, Jacqueline R. Romeo; plus numerous nephews and nieces.
Al was born in Bellmore, Long Island, New York. He lived on Long Island for most of his life, retired from Eaton Corporation and moved to Heathsville in 2003. Al was a member of Wicomico Parish Church, Wicomico Church; the American Legion Post 117, Reedville; past member of the Lancaster Lions Club and the National Audubon Society.
His major accomplishments were his amateur radio (W2NGC) contacts of over 500 countries, hiked Mt. Washington, backpacked the Grand Canyon, received a bachelor of science at Adelphi University, and retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve as senior chief electronics technician. Al joined the Naval Reserve in his junior year of high school. Two years later in 1949 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving over four years, retiring in 1990 from the U.S. Naval Reserve.
Al’s wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his many friends and family.
