Alfred Lee Burkholder Jr.

SOUTH BOSTON—Alfred Lee Burkholder Jr. of South Boston passed away May 22, 2022.

He was born in Lynchburg on September 16, 1957, and was 64 years of age. He was the son of Marilyn Yates Burkholder and the late Alfred Lee “Al” Burkholder Sr.

Lee was a man of service, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, served in the U.S. Air Force, and was proud to be a member of the Halifax Rescue Squad. He loved fishing, racing, boating, riding motorcycles and RV camping. Lee loved living life to its fullest in everything that he did even when it came to helping others. He was extremely giving and hardworking.

As the owner of Commonwealth Home Health, First Dominion Home Health, Personal Homecare and First Care Health Services, he worked hard to succeed, not just in business but in his relationships with his employees and customers. He even got his computer science degree from the University of Texas and developed his own software for the company.

He was a man with a big personality, a great sense of humor, and he will truly be missed by all who knew him.   

Alfred Lee Burkholder Jr. is survived by his mother, Marilyn Y. Burkholder; his children, Marilyn Faye B. Conner (Chad) of Nathalie, Sarah B. Chuon (Timothy) of Montclair and Alfred Lee “Trey” Burkholder III (Kendall) of Halifax; his grandchildren, Hunter Conner, Harper Conner, Kenlee Burkholder, Levi Burkholder and Liam Burkholder; his grand dog, Sascha; and siblings, Brenda Burkholder of Kilmarnock and Richard Terry Burkholder of South Boston.

He was preceded in death by a special companion, Robin Collier; and his dog, Uno.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 30, at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Very Rev. Susan Grimm officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery with military rites. The family received friends Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church.
