Alliemether E. Hebbons

KILMARNOCK—Alliemether Evelyn Hebbons, 102, of Kilmarnock died November 13, 2016.

She was born December 24, 1913, in Millenbeck to the late William P. and Mary Polly Smith.

Mrs. Hebbons was a member of Hartswell Baptist Church where she was active with the missionary ministries, vacation Bible school and Sunday school.

She received her education at Hartswell School and A.T. Wright School. She worked at the Millenbeck Wharf Tomato Cannery and also as a culinarian at Lancaster Primary School.

Upon her 100th birthday in 2013, Mrs. Hebbons received letters of recognition from President Barack Obama, Gov. Bob McDonnell and Lancaster County administrator Frank Pelva. She also received the Church Mother Award presented by Hartswell Baptist Church, May 13, 2012, and the Lifetime of Service Award from the Lancaster County Branch of the NAACP, October 10, 2015.

She is survived by daughters, Florene Dilver of Senora and Mamie Wood of White Stone; sons, Levi Hebbons of Millenbeck, Harvina Hebbons of Philadelphia, Pa., and Calvin Hebbons of Weems; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

She also was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Adolphus Hebbons; daughter, Patricia Romania Carter; and son, James Erskine Hebbons.

A funeral was held November 19 at Hartswell Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Hebbons Family Cemetery, Millenbeck.
