WICOMICO—Andrea R. Kuykendall, 58, of Wicomico left this world on Thursday, December 12, 2024, surrounded by family and buoyed by the support and prayers of loved ones all over the world.
Andrea was born in Morocco on November 4, 1966. She was preceded in death by her father, Julian “Tony” Hart; and son, James “Chris” Kuykendall.
Andrea is survived by her absolutely adored grandchildren, Isaac, Carter, Julian, Layla and Owen; beloved husband, Kenneth Kuykendall; adoring children, Johnathan Hart (Emily) of Washington, D.C., Lee Kuykendall (Morgan) of Richmond and Allison Hart (Andrew) of Richmond; as well as her mother, Catheen “Kathy” Hart; sisters, Susan Hart, Julie Hart and Karen O’Keefe; and a small army of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
The daughter of a navy man, Andrea and her sisters traveled the world from the start. Born in Sidi Yahia, Morocco, she covered America from coast to coast, living in Maryland, Virginia, Hawaii and Alaska, before spending time in Spain, an experience that would stay with her for the rest of her life.
Two of the most important things to Andrea were home and family. Once back in Frederick, Md., Andrea began to grow her own, welcoming her son Johnathan before following family to New Castle, Pa., and welcoming her daughter (and future best friend) Allison.
After moving to Florida, Andrea would find the love of her life—an unexpected man in an unexpected place—a fisherman turned real estate broker from Virginia that was somehow on the same cruise. The unlikelihood of this meeting would be dwarfed by the love that would come from it. Andrea gained not only a partner and co-best friend, but two more children, Chris and Lee. After moving to Virginia, Andrea began turning her house into a home. Nestled in the Northern Neck, she made a base where everyone was welcome and she would host dinners and drinks, birthday parties and family reunions, marriage proposals and slumber parties.
Andrea loved her family and friends fiercely. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for someone she loved. She was hard-nosed and strong-headed, but loyal and loving and so very sweet, especially when wiggling smiles out of a baby. She rocked hard, often surprising people with her taste in music. She loved to travel, taking the long way so she could spend more time in the truck with Kenny. She loved to make people laugh, teaching Johnathan how to be funny—even when it wasn’t appropriate. She loved love, basking in the glow that Allison brought to her world, whether it was stressing out over life or binging the Gilmore Girls. She loved to talk, cherishing late nights chatting with Julian about anything and everything under the sun.
Andrea was many things to many people and everything to some. Her impact will never be diminished, and her memory will be forever honored. She is missed and so very, very loved.
A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. Monday, December 16, at Currie Funeral Home, 116 East Church Street, Kilmarnock.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring or summer of 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Kuykendall Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wesley Presbyterian Church in honor of Andrea, 70 Faith Circle, Weems, VA 22576.
