
IRVINGTON—Anne G. Schumacher, 90, of Irvington died Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury (RWC) in Irvington.
Anne Schumacher was born in San Antonio, Texas, on March 9, 1933, to Harley Richard Grater and Julia Nance Stratton Grater.
Anne, a lifelong PEO, attended Cottey College and Miami of Ohio. She graduated with a degree in education, teaching for several years before and after her children were out of school.
She married the love of her life, Clark Martin Schumacher, on August 17, 1956, and they were happily married for 64 years; Clark preceded her in death. Clark and Anne raised three children, traveled all 50 states, and moved to the Northern Neck to be near her parents Bill and Nance Underwood at RWC. Together they owned See’ N O Auto Parts in Warsaw and enjoyed volunteering at Historic Christ Church in Weems.
She is survived by son, Richard (Vickie) Schumacher of Rittman, Ohio; daughters, Susan Schumacher Doig of St. Louis, Mo. and Emily Schumacher of Ballwin, Mo.; grandchildren, Scott (Kelly Gordon) Schumacher, Aaron (Sopheap) Schumacher, Kristi (Dakota) Hoffman, Emily (Cedric) Sacus, Ian Doig, Annie Doig and Lindsey (Nate) Millan, and Jordan Breece; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah Sacus, Lana Schumacher, Paxton Hoffman, Nathan Schumacher, Olivia and Maxwell Millan.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clark Schumacher; parents, Harley Richard Grater, Nance Grater Underwood and William Underwood.
She will be buried at Historic Christ Church in Weems. A small memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at RWC in Irvington.
