Art League posts workshop schedule

The Rappahannock Art League winter and spring art and crafts workshop series is under way at the Studio Gallery, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Workshop chairman Cheryl Mihills has put together an impressive line-up of new and favorite workshops, reported Anne Cotter.

February 

Steph Brown will repeat her popular workshops, Drawing for the Truly Terrified, February 16; Getting Started with Colored Pencil, February 21; and Introduction to Pen and Ink, February 28, all from 10 a.m. to 3pm.

Renate Bumgarner will restart her Oil Painting Studio where she will help oil painters develop their paintings. They will start Friday, February 3, and continue every Friday through March from noon to 3 p.m.

March

Nina Shepardson will lead a Pysanky Workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 11 and 12. Participants will make a Ukrainian egg, just in time for Easter.

Mary Jo Beswick will guide all levels in Creating a Monotype Family, a series of similar but different images done by drawing, painting and printmaking. Classes will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26.

Eva-Marie Ruhl will lead two workshops, Drawing with Powdered Graphite on Board and Yupo, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 7 and 8 and April 18 and 19.

April 

Sukey Starkey will present 10×10-inch Mosaic Mirror from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1.

Bill Rekert will repeat Fundamentals of Photography, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays April 4 through May 4.

Judy Penry will lead Introduction to Nantucket Baskets, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 5 and April 12. She also will teach 6-inch Nantucket Basket classes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2 and May 9.

Mary Jo Beswick will return with a three-part Introduction to Simple Abstraction as Self Expression. From 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 21, she will teach Introduction Contour Drawing; from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 22, Introduction to Image Abstraction and Composition; and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 23, Introduction to Inventive Color: Water Based Painting.

Additional workshops may be offered, said Cotter.

Looking ahead, Starkey will conduct a Mosaic Yard Art (a gazing ball) workshop from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 and 15.
