As regular season ends, Lancaster golf team boasts winning record

Some big holes were left on Lancaster High’s boys and girls cross country teams with the loss of four graduated seniors including Class 1 state champion Hailey Smith.

But first-year head coach Jim Timm shies away from calling it a rebuilding year.

“We still have a good core group back and I’m pleased with our returners and new athletes,” said Timm, who has served as an assistant since 2010. He swapped places with longtime head coach Joanne Webb-Fary this year. Webb-Fary will be assisting and works with the runners a few days per week.

Timm returns five on his boys team including senior Jameson Scott, juniors Brian McCrillis, Isaiah Minter and Trayjan Waddy and sophomore Matthew Kane.

“Matthew ran all summer and is much better,” said Timm. “The key for any athlete is off-season conditioning. He came out of the summer in good shape after training with Hailey and Michael [Foulkes] and is probably our number one male runner right now.”

He finished as the runner-up in the season opening meet….
