LANCASTER—Barbara Jean Cowardin, 75, of Lancaster died on Monday, April 29, 2024, at her home in Mollusk. She was the widow of Herbert Spencer Cowardin Jr., and a retired insurance adjuster.

Barbara was born in New Jersey on May 19, 1948, to Richard and Mary Alburger Koos.

She is survived by her two sisters, Carol Corson (Jef) of Blue Bell, Pa., and Deborah Fetter of Marlton, N.J.; eight nieces and nephews; and 15 grand-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Bruce W. Cowardin (Kimberly Sipple) and Catherine Cowardin Miller (Douglas); four step-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband.

Despite her quiet life in the small town of Mollusk, Barb’s presence was felt far and wide. Known for her artistic talents, Barb found joy in creating beautiful crafts, from hand-knit blankets for newborn nieces and nephews to intricate pottery pieces. Barb enjoyed travel and time spent with her stepchildren, as well as visits North to yet another multitude of loving family and friends. She enjoyed reading. She shared her love for golfing and the occasional martini with those closest to her, always ready to enjoy a good laugh.

Barbara’s strong-willed nature and zest for life touched everyone she met and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Kilmarnock.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
