Barnes named ‘Distinguished Woman in Southern Agriculture’

Like many involved in the agriculture industry, Virginia “Ginny” Pitman Barnes comes from a long line of farmers. But unlike many, Barnes can now call herself a Distinguished Woman in Southern Agriculture.

Barnes, who hails from Lancaster County, received the recognition from the Southern Crop Production Association (SCPA) at its 66th annual meeting, which was held virtually on November 3.

“I was very surprised. It was a total shock,” Barnes said when she found out about the award. “I didn’t know that I had been nominated.”

The award, which was created just two years ago, recognizes “a leading woman who has made significant contributions to Southern agriculture….
