Bay Transit wins marketing award

Bay Transit, the public transportation division of Bay Aging, is the Virginia Transit Association’s (VTA) 2021 Public Transportation Outstanding Marketing Award winner.

Bay Transit received the award at the 2021 Virginia Transit Association Conference & Expo September 28 and 29 in Tysons Corner.

Like transit systems across the country, the COVID-19 pandemic dramatically impacted ridership on Bay Transit’s fleet of 48 buses, reported marketing and public relations manager Michael B. Norvell. Ridership also was impacted when Bay Aging suspended operations at their eight Active Lifestyle Centers across the region. Bay Transit’s popular seasonal trolley service also was suspended for the entire 2020 season.

Excepting the trolley service, Bay Transit continued to operate without interruption throughout 2020. Nevertheless, from January through April, monthly ridership on Bay Transit dropped by 49%.
