Dear Santa, I am sitting here with paper and a pen,
Hoping you will drop into our chimney once again.
I haven’t been too awfully good. I guess you know that’s right.
But Santa I have tried most times to do what is polite.
I think it just might help you to decide what you should do
If I explain in black and white and send it on to you.
So, here dear Santa is a list I hope you will remember
When you’re flying by my chimney on the 24th of December.
I smiled at teacher every day, even though I’m very shy;
When Lisa pushed me in the line, I let her go on by;
I didn’t hit that bully when he tried to pick a fight;
I played just one more X Box game when Mom yelled “Cut that light!”;
I wrote a thank you note to Gramps for that ugly, itchy scarf;
I tried to eat that oyster when it made me want to b***;
I try to keep my napkin in my lap and off the table;
I help bring in the groceries -whenever I feel able;
I try to say both ma’am and sir to those who are much older;
And I forgave Jo’s blabbing the secret that I told her.
I know you will be watching me even though you won’t appear,
And if you fly on by this time, I’ll try again next year.
But dear Santa Claus, please do your best to see this as I see it;
It’s easier to want to be Polite than I find it is to be it.
Merry Christmas, Dear Readers. Santa will surely be good to you, because you are polite!
