Board approves, rescinds, then amends supplemental appropriation for schools

HEATHSVILLE—In an unanimous 5-0 vote, Northumberland supervisors on Wednesday, July 23, directed the planning and economic development commissions (EDC) to develop a plan for the best use of four county properties currently not in use.

The board discussed four parcels based on a 2023 list complied by the planning commission—a 1.5-acre landlocked parcel near the intersection of Bells Cove and Lodge Road assessed at $5,000; a 140-acre parcel on Dodlyt Road assessed at $297,300; a 17.51-acre parcel just east of Dameron Marsh assessed at $272,600; and a 6.355-acre parcel near the entrance of Indian Creek Estates assessed at $15,900.

EDC executive director Robert Bullard said the 140-acre parcel on Dodlyt Road, a former poor house tract, would be a desirable property to hold….
