‘Cacophony’ of seagulls hitches ride on Bay Transit

KILMARNOCK—The big unveil came at 6:15 p.m. last Friday when about 70 people at a reception at the RAL Art Center in Kilmarnock ventured onto Main Street to view a newly decorated Bay Transit bus.

A large painting of seagulls, fluttering, flying and squawking filled the entire side of the van. The “art in transit” is the work of Mel Neale of Lancaster, winner of the 2022 Art in Transit contest. The original pastel piece, “Cacophony,” was one of 40 entries in this year’s contest. The winner’s piece was then transformed and placed on the side of the bus.

None of the entrants, including Neale, knew the winning….
